I keep being asked questions about Kindle Publishing, such as’How do I publish my book on Kindle?’ or ‘Where do I sign up for a Kindle Publishing account?’ For this reason I have recorded a short video showing you exactly where to go to sign up for a Kindle account, and the steps you need to take to make your book live and available for sale on Amazon in just a matter of days.

Before You Publish…

There are a few things you need before you come to publish your book.

First of all, you will need your manuscript formatting. Your book can be published from a normal word document, so you don’t require anything special for this, however, it does need to be formatted correctly.

This means font and font size, paragraph/line spacing, and table of contents all need to be in place.

A common format for Kindle publishing is the following:

Font: Georgia

Font Size: 12 or 14

Line Spacing: Single Line

You then need to add a table of contents, if you have never done this before, it is pretty simple, simply highlight all of the headings in your book (i.e. chapter 1, 2 etc) and click insert>bookmark.

Then place your cursor where you want to add your table of contents and click references>Table of contents (this may be placed elsewhere on different versions of Word). You can now select your automatic table of contents and it will add it for you.

You also need to ensure that your contents meets Kindle Publishing’s guidelines.

You can view them by clicking the link below:

Secondly, you need a cover.

You can use Kindle Publishing’s cover creator, however, you are going to get a much more professional look if you hire a designer. This doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavour. You can hire designers on Fiverr for just $5!

That being said, I would consider purchasing an image to send to the designer, so that you don’t end up with the free stock images that the designers will use for a lot of clients.

The best site I can recommend for cheap stock images is Fotolia  Here you can purchase one off images or you can purchases packages (if you are going to be publishing lots of books) where photos can cost as little as 16 cents each! What’s more is you can use them for a huge amount of downloads under there commercial terms (hundreds of thousands), so you won’t need to buy an extended licence for the photograph for a very long time!

Lastly, you will need a Kindle Publishing account, and to sign up for one of these you simply head on over to kdp.amazon.com

Consider This when Kindle publishing…

There are a few points you need to consider before you publish.

Anyone can publish on Kindle, and many countries have their own Kindle platform. This tutorial video has been recorded with Amazon.com (US Amazon). The reason for this is that Amazon.com have the biggest Kindle Publishing marketplace, so even if you are based outside of the U.S. I would suggest Kindle Publishing on Amazon.com. I myself am based in the UK and have found that over 90% of my Kindle publishing sales come from the U.S.

On top of this from the Amazon.com dashboard, your book will actually be available for sale on the other platforms as well. So there really is no need to worry about publishing on the other platforms, unless you really want to of course!

Resources…

In the video I mention a few resources, some of them I have listed in the article above, but I will list them again here as well.

Fiverr (For getting cheap, quality cover designers)

Fotolia (To get cheap images)

Kindle Publishing (To sign up for your Amazon Account)

Amazon (To check out your book when you are finished publishing)

Google Keyword Planner (To research your keywords)

…And finally these couple of paid items are optional, but if you are serious about Kindle Publishing, then they will not only make your life easier, but will fast track your success.

K Book Promotions

This amazing tool automates a massive portion of your Kindle Publishing business. Everything from marketing, HTML description generation, Rank Tracking and much much more, and their support is absolutely amazing! They also have videos showing you how to use all the features. This software really has been a godsend in my Kindle Publishing business. I have organised a little trial with them for you to test out how powerful this software is, so it’s at no risk to you.

K Money Mastery

Probably the best Kindle Publishing course on the market. It shows you not only how to publish in simple step by step modules, but everything you need to make your book successful, so how to market your book, research the best possible niches and much more. It really is a must if you want to create an ongoing passive income with Kindle Publishing, and the best part is it’s only $67 and it even comes with a 30 day free trial, but trust me, you won’t even consider a refund on this one for the value it provides.
