WordPress is undoubtedly one of the best platforms available to online business owners today.

Why? Because it is so easy to use, and so easy to customise.

There are plugins to add to the site for literally anything you can think of.

It is estimated that 25-50% of all websites are now powered by WordPress.

That is a LOT of sites!

The great thing about WordPress, is that it lends itself to ANY online business.

So, whether you want to launch a blog, e-commerce store, forum, review site or just a plain old information site, WordPress is the ideal tool!

So, how do you set up a WordPress site?

Well, I have recorded a video for you, which shows you step by step how to launch your WordPress site below.

However, I have also broken down the steps and written them below too, so you can follow along with the video.

Step 1

The first thing you need is hosting.

You can of course use any host you would like, but the one I recommend is Smart Host.

The reason I use Smart Host is because not only is their package cheap, it comes with a free domain name and their customer service is impeccable.

So head on over to the link below and click the button to order your hosting. The cheapest package- Unlimited Web Hosting (£2.49 per month at the time of writing this) is adequate to get you started, and although this service is in pounds, it is available worldwide.

You will then be prompted to choose your free domain name.

Ideally, you want a .com domain and one that reflects your business.

For example, if you’re selling handmade gifts, you ideally want a domain that reflects this such as thehandmadegiftstore.com

After you have chosen a domain name, you will need to fill in your name, address and payment information.

Step 2

Once your order is completed, you will receive an email, with what seems like a lot of links and passwords.

Don’t panic!

Just scroll down to the section that says CPanel.

Use this link, username and password to access the control panel for your hosting.

Step 3

Once inside the Cpanel, you need to scroll to the section that is called ‘Softilicious App Installer’, Under this section you will see the WordPress Logo- which looks like this:

Click This! And then click the install button.

Step 4

You will then be brought to a page where you will be asked to fill in some details.

You don’t need to edit it all.

The protocol of the site (usually http://)

The Database Directory (I like this to be blank, so if yours say wp then it is worth deleting that)

Site Name (The name of your website)

Site Description (A short description of your site)

Username (The name you want to log in with)

Password (The password you want to log in with)

Admin Email (Your email address)

Select Your Language

Under advanced options, you may want to select automatic updates. This means whenever a new version of WordPress is released it will automatically update your site to it, this protects your site from cyber hacks.

You can then select a theme if you wish, but I usually opt to do this later.

Then click install.

Within a couple of minutes, you should have a confirmation message that your WordPress has been installed and links to your admin section- make a note of these!

Step 5

You can now go into your WordPress dashboard, using the link, and the username and password you have just created.

There are a few things you will want to start with.

Theme: Select appearance, themes and then add new at the top. You can then search by colour or use the feature filter to select and install any theme you like. There are thousands!

Yoast SEO: This is a plugin that allows you to optimise your site so it is easier to find by search engines like Google.

To install, simply go to plugins, add new, and then search for Yoast SEO.

WP Supercache: This will make your site load faster, find this plugin the same way as above.

Jetpack: Again you can find this the same way you did Yoast.

Jetpack is made by WordPress themselves, and has loads of cool tools, such as site statistics and analytics.

Very handy!

You can now begin to add your content!

There are plugins available for almost anything you can think of, if you want to open a shop, search e-commerce, if you want to blog, you can do so by clicking post, and add new.

I hope this has been helpful!
