If you are anything like me (or most entrepreneurs) you will know how difficult it can be to maintain a good work life balance.

The issue is first and foremost that as entrepreneurs we love to work! I know I personally find myself waking up excited during the night about my business activities! But the other issue that affects work life balance, is that there is always something else you can be doing, and at times you may even experience the feeling of guilt when you take a night off!

So…What can you do to improve your work life balance?

I have put together some tips to help you improve your work life balance.

1 Proper Planning & Prioritising

You need to put into place a system which will allow you to plan and prioritise your tasks. This will not only give you more focus, but it will ensure that you complete the most urgent tasks on the day you need to.

My own system for this includes using a day per page diary and my list of tasks go in there everyday. I always write the most urgent tasks at the top of the list, and work down the list in that order. This means that if I get to the end of the day and I haven’t completed every task on my list, I am not worrying and thinking I need to work longer in order to get it all done, because I have already completed the most urgent tasks and can add the less urgent tasks on my list for tomorrow in the relevant position on the list.

This method may or may not work for you, but it has worked very well in helping my systematise my work.

2 Working Hours

When you started your online business (or start if you are yet to do so) you probably did so so that you could have the freedom to work the hours you wanted.

This is a wonderful thing, and there is nothing wrong with it. However, one thing I have found which makes me more productive and helps me have a better work life balance is to set myself working hours and to stick to them!

I know this probably sounds like you are just creating another job for yourself, but trust me, in the long run, you will be grateful you did. Not only does it allow you to have set time to spend with your family and friends (or just taking care of yourself) but it also keeps you focused and ensures you spend enough time on your business.

3 Quality

Whatever you do in your life, you should do it with passion. The time you have with your family should be quality time. Making memories, enjoying each others company, the simple things in life. On the flip side of this, the work you do should be just as quality.

The better you do it the first time round, the less likely you are to have to repeat or improve it later, on top of that, you are going to be in a more favourable positions with your readers, customers or clients as well, which has a knock on effect on the amount of sales you make for the time you’re putting in. Make every minute count!

Make sure everything you do is with passion and of quality, both in your home and work life.

4 Live in the Moment

One of my pet hates, is how fast time goes. It seems like a blink of an eye between one Christmas and the next, and the strange thing is, when you’re a child, a year seems like a lifetime. Yet we all have the same amount of time.

What is the reason for this? Mindfulness! A child lives entirely in the moment. They don’t worry about what is happening tomorrow, or next week. They focus on the job at hand, and this is something we can learn from children.

If we try our best to just focus on today and not what we have to do tomorrow or next week, then it’ll seem like we have more time than we actually do!

I know this sounds a little odd, but if you’re spending time with your family and you’re worrying about work, you’re going to feel like you have had much less time with your family than if you were totally focused on that.

5 Keep A Clear Mind

Taking time out for yourself is really important for your business. If you don’t have a clear mind then you aren’t going to do the best work you can do.

I know I have personally had nights where I have still been working at 2am, and I was so tired I have had to go back and redo it the next day. What was the point in that?

Whether you relax by reading, meditation, exercise, taking a bath or just sitting watching a movie, then make sure you take the time to do that. It will give you a clear mind and make your work better quality.
